December Happenings
Hello friends! It has been an amazing month of Christmas with the Elf King and I can’t wait to share some behind the scenes fun with y’all! I also interviewed a new author friend, Heather Schneider, you are going to want to meet!
First of all, I hope you all had a cozy Thanksgiving full of food and fun family times. I was lucky to be able to go to my in-laws for Thanksgiving and was only in charge of pretzel salad and dessert! Whew! So, needless to say, I enjoyed my time not being the host! Christmas will be a different matter entirely, but I can’t wait!
My 2 grown kids will be home for Christmas–filling our home with 4 crazy, loud, fun, adventurous souls! Well, plus my amazing husband and golden retriever puppy, Pippin, 2 cats and backyard chickens, it's going to be a full and joyful Christmas!
I can not actually believe I am writing this, but my little cozy Christmas fantasy–my little dream–is a #1 Amazon BESTSELLER!!!!!! As of right now, it is holding strong as #1 in one category and #2's in 2 others! I am in the top 2,500 of every single book available on kindle! For reference, getting in the top 12,000 is a big deal for indies!
Word of mouth is spreading like wildfire and I am just blown away. I knew I wanted a true Christmas story set in a fantasy setting like “The Lord of the Rings”, but never knew it would resonate with so many. Thank you so much for your love and support. Every little bit makes a huge difference in my little world.
We are officially in Christmas full swing over here at Poppy Mountain Press! Garlands are hung, presents are being purchased, and books are being signed. I can not believe the amount of love my little Christmas fantasy is getting. From bookstagrammers and booktokers to my kid’s teachers, people are spreading the word of my cozy fantasy book all around the world. As a self-published author, I can see more behind the scenes. I know my book has been read in Germany, France, Mexico, Australia and Canada! It’s kind of amazing to think that somewhere out there complete strangers are cozying up and reading my words right now!
The Christmas season has arrived, so here’s a peek of some things on my to-do list:
Rewatch Pride & Prejudice (2005)
Organize my bookshelves
Finish a few books on my TBR, Tolerable by Ruth Mitchell and A Very Merry Murder by Kate Wells
Buy and wrap presents for my 4 kids, husband, parents, teachers, dog-sitter, eye doctor, 🤪etc
Watch “A Muppet’s Christmas Carol” with the family while eating gingerbread cookies and drinking hot cocoa!

Interview with Heather Schneider
I want you all to meet my friend and fellow cozy author, Heather Schneider. She has a delightfully cozy Christmas fantasy, Chasing Cheer, that is a North Pole magic retelling with small town Hallmark Christmas vibes I just know you are going to love! I sat down with Heather and asked her about her process.
-What inspired you to become an author?
My love of reading, particularly as a young adult. I loved getting swept away by magical stories, usually with a little romance, and characters I could root for. I wanted to create that experience for others.
-What do you love about writing?
My favorite part about writing is inventing magic systems. My magical systems are fairly whimsical (Christmas magic, plant magic, etc.) and it's fun to do a deep dive into history or scientific materials to find inspiration for the magic.
-What are your top 3 book recs for clean romantasy?
Right now my top 3 are Tempests and Tea Leaves by Rachel Morgan, The Akarnae series by Lynette Noni (doesn't get much romance until the later books), and Ocean of Ink by A.R. Conwell
Check out her book Chasing Cheer here.
